The Family Stories Book:
Investigating the Stories Told in Students' Families Leads to a Book Full of Treasures

At Atkinson Elementary School in southeast Portland, Oregon, a year of writing assignments leads to creating family story books. While improving their writing skills and learning about the genre of story writing, students develop an appreciation of their own family stories. As students share the foods, artifacts, and traditions of their countries of origin, they develop an appreciation of each other's stories assembled into treasured publications.
