Big Learning in a Small Community:
Yup'ik Students Discover Important Things about Where They Are From Through Writing

Middle school students in Clarks Point, Alaska, explored the history and culture of their community to produce a web site and 40 page book, the first compilation of the community's history ever produced. Clarks Point School was receiving assistance from Alaska's Southeast Regional Resource Center (SERRC) to improve student achievement particularly in writing. When a SERCC consultant encouraged the school to apply for a small grant to support their book project with the goals of improving student writing, and making learning more relevant and engaging, the project took off.
