The old adage, "What happens in Vegas stays in Vegas" will not apply June 23-25, 2008, because this conference is all about sharing best practices and developing improvement plans to bring back to your schools and district.

From Structure to Instruction Conference features:

  • Presentations by practitioners with "in the trenches" experience about transforming large high schools into small learning communities
  • Topical workshops and personalized coaching sessions that will give teams and individuals access to expertise as they tackle the intensive work of structural and instructional improvement
  • Two motivational keynote sessions, networking luncheons, and exhibits showcasing a range of resources available to small schools, career academies, and small learning communities.

Founding Principles

The content for the conference addresses 21st Century skills with a focus on rigor and relevance, closing the achievement gap, motivating youth to learn, and building teachers' skills in the classroom to engage students. Our inclusive approach recognizes the merit of offering high school education in all types of learning communities in which students are well known and supported, and learning is linked to real world experience. This conference is founded on the principles of equity in students' access to meaningful instruction and high expectations, fairness and justice in the allocation of resources, on cultural responsiveness in instruction and policies, and in school and community relationships.
