Christopher Columbus High School
Conclusion

The CN smaller learning community at Columbus has been an excellent testing ground for a cluster of strategies the school is using to increase student engagement and commitment to learning. As CN staff members identify the most powerful and sustainable aspects of their innovative program, these strategies can ripple through the entire school, taking root in the existing house system. Thus the SLC funding, meant to serve as seed money for new programs, will likely contribute to improved achievement for the entire student population.

In many ways, the most exciting part of the CN program lies ahead. As CN students move into their senior year and make their post-graduation plans, staff members will be able to assess the long-term effects of their hard work, and this CN "family" will be able to revel in the success of its "kids."
