Oregon PIRC for Parents
The Oregon PIRC develops materials for parents to expand their skills and abilities to form effective and meaningful partnerships with their child's school. These resources include:
- Parent Pages which provide information about the education law known as No Child Left Behind and explain how it affects parents and their children. The Parent Pages also include information on such topics as playing games with kids for fun and learning, helping with homework, and much more.
- Online Learning Modules which will help parents expand their ability to work with the staff at their child's school. The sessions also provide information on how to help the child succeed in school and in life.
- Parent Publications: The first two publications include Tips for Parents about Reading and Easy Ways to Help Your Child Learn at Home. These packages are available in both English and Spanish.
- Web Links to useful information for all parents.
Training workshops, held at conferences and targeted schools, show parents how they can help their child succeed in school.
Early Childhood Parent Education
In Oregon, there are 51 parent education programs—Parents As Teachers (PAT) and Home Instruction for Parents of Preschool Youth (HIPPY)—supported by funds from the Oregon PIRC. We provide parents with information on how to access the local programs that can help them get their preschool child ready for school.
