Description
The Northwest Regional Educational Laboratory (NWREL) improves educational results for children, youth, and adults by providing research and development assistance in delivering equitable, high-quality educational programs. NWREL is a private, nonprofit corporation which has served the Northwest region since 1966 as its Regional Educational Laboratory under contract with the U. S. Department of Education, as well as other federal, state, and local agencies and organizations.
NWREL's Evaluation Program is focused on collecting, analyzing, and presenting data to help guide and evaluate educational programs. This position will be primarily involved in the evaluation of statewide reading improvement projects, including the analysis and interpretation of student assessment scores, as well as collecting and analyzing survey, interview, and observational data.
Duties
- Design data collection instruments
- Collect, analyze and prepare data into reports and documents in support of projects and larger program efforts
- Perform qualitative and quantitative data analysis on large scale data to assess effectiveness of education intervention programs
- Conduct site visits, interviews and observations at schools, meetings and institutes
- Compose evaluation reports
- Assist with proposal development efforts
Qualifications
Education/Training
Masters' degree in an educational field related to evaluation, education or general social science.
Experience
The successful applicant should have the following skills, knowledge, and abilities
- Master's degree in an educational field related to evaluation, education or general social science
- Three years experience conducting program evaluations including writing reports and preparing presentations to communicate interpolative results
- Current knowledge of school/district administration and theoretical frameworks
- Knowledge of database management
- Proficiency in the application and use of spreadsheet, database, word processing software and SPSS
- Ability to work cooperatively and independently with a diverse range of education professionals
- High competence in written and verbal communication skills
Desired/Preferred
- Knowledge and or experience in effectuating organizational change, especially in effective communication
- Doctoral degree in education
- Past experience working as a contributing team member
- Advanced database skills
- Familiarity with Reading First programs and/or primary reading instruction
Problem Solving
- Prioritizing assigned work to meet deadline requirements, including due dates for multiple, time-sensitive reports
- Selecting data and information resources to use in daily work and team contributions
- Dividing personal time as a resource between multiple team efforts with different needs and schedules
- Structuring reports and presentations to meet educator and community audiences
- Deciding how to collaborate with Program staff and Directors for the completion of projects
Accountability
- NWREL procedures Quality Control, web development and publication standards to assure quality control compliance
- Self-directed with minimal oversight by supervisor
- Overall work is reviewed during annual performance evaluation and periodic discussion with supervisor
- Budgetary responsibility does not extend to Program or project operating budgets
Physical Demands/Conditions:
Office
- Sit for prolonged periods of time, finger dexterity for the operation of a personal computer, operate a telephone, ability to lift or transport small packages weighing up to 35 pounds, frequent interruptions to concentration, interact with a wide range of clients and co-workers
Travel
- Moderate travel requirements (up to 25% of work schedule) including extended overnight stays out of state
- Ability to travel by car or common carrier for out of state and rural travel
- Ability to transport and/or handle moderate sized packages and materials (up to 35 pounds) at on-site locations
Compensation
Salary range: $40,300 - $69,100 per year based on experience, plus a benefits package that includes vacation, generous employer paid retirement, medical, dental, life insurance, transportation benefit, and opportunities for ongoing professional development.
