Description
The Northwest Regional Educational Laboratory (NWREL) improves educational results for children, youth, and adults by providing research and development assistance in delivering equitable, high-quality educational programs. NWREL is a private, nonprofit corporation which has served the Northwest region since 1966 as its Regional Educational Laboratory under contract with the U. S. Department of Education, as well as other federal, state, and local agencies and organizations.
Read and score student essays for large scale assessment projects. Assess student essays from grades K-12, using the 6+1 Trait® Writing model rubric on either 4-, 5-, 6-point scales or district-requested rubric and scale. For each project, raters are provided with scoring rubrics and are trained on how to use them. This position serves as a member of a pool of raters who are called upon as the type and amount of work dictates.
Duties
- Read and score student essays
- Assess student essays from grades K-12 using a provided writing rubric. Accurate and proficient use of 4-, 5-, or 6- point scales or district-requested rubric and scale as is appropriate for the assignment
- Complete work in a timely and accurate manner
- Enter scoring results into computer system accurately
- Disciplined approach to processing large numbers of papers. Results are calibrated with those from other team members
- Work cooperatively with others in a professional and positive manner
Qualifications
Experience: The successful applicant should have the following skills, knowledge, and abilities- 2 years teaching writing within the kindergarten to 12th grade
- Experience entering data into databases on Windows-based computers
- Ability to quickly learn demands of new projects
- Perform work quickly and accurately
- Demonstrated knowledge of the basic skill level of student writers within grades K-12s
- Ability and willingness to work professionally and productively in team environment to meet project deadlines
- Ability and willingness to build and maintain positive working relationships with others
Desired/Preferred
- Two or more years using a trait-based assessment system to grade student writing essays
- Experience using the internet to verify accuracy of key information on student research essays
