September 1997 Six-Traits Writing Video Now Available
This product is no longer available.
A new video on the six-traits writing process for young writers provides viewers with a glimpse into classrooms of early elementary children.
Seeing With New Eyes (Third Edition) is the third video in NWREL's In the Classroom series that explores the many ways young writers—kindergarten through grade three—learn to write by using the six traits: ideas, organization, voice, word choice, sentence fluency, and conventions. The 30-minute video takes viewers inside Seattle-area classrooms to watch young writers respond to fine literature, revise and edit writing, and engage in critical thinking activities.
Picture books by Maya Angelou, Chris Raschka, Eve Bunting, Gary Paulsen, Mem Fox, and Jan Haley are featured in a variety of scenarios that celebrate the link between writing and reading.
The video is accompanied by the Seeing With New Eyes text (Third Edition, 302 pages), and a new Facilitator's Guide.
The video, text, and guide provide ways to assess and teach beginning writers that emphasizes the positive, builds on the reading- writing link, and teaches students to think and work like writers. The package costs $165 and can be ordered directly from IOX Educational Research and Development by calling (503) 582-8958.
