September 1997 Work Now Conference Set for Nov. 2-4
Work Now and in the Future, NWREL's annual conference that focuses on school-to-work and other related issues, will feature more than 100 sessions, tours of nationally recognized school-to-work models, and visits to local businesses and worksites that are leading the way into the workplace of the 21st century.
The conference will be November 3-4 at the Oregon Convention Center in Portland, with a daylong preconference scheduled for November 2. Among the speakers are JD Hoye, Director of the National School-to-Work Office; Patricia McNeil, assistant secretary in the U.S. Department of Education; Cassandra Jones, School-to-Career Director, Philadelphia School District; and Chad Foster, entrepreneur and author.
Among the planned work sessions are:
- Applied learning strategies for all educational levels
- Trends in the workplaces of tomorrow
- New technologies and their applications
- School-to-work transition issues and models
- Service learning and success stories
- Welfare reform policies connecting school-to-work
- Teacher education
