Education Now and in the Future 2001, in Portland October 29–30, will offer the session series Developing High-Performing Learning Communities:

Professional Development in a High-Performing Learning Community: Finding Our Own Answers. This session demonstrates how to organize and facilitate school teams that learn together to improve teaching and learning.

The Role of School, Family, and Community Partnerships in Developing High-Performing Learning Communities. Based on the manual, Planning for Youth Success, this session introduces a process for establishing partnerships among school staff, students, families, and community stakeholders.

Effective Components of High-Performing Learning Communities. Focusing on relationships between schools and districts, participants examine shared decisionmaking, professional development, and fostering leaders.

Creating Readers in High-Performing Learning Communities: Traits of an Effective ReaderTM. This session introduces an instruction and assessment model for reading instruction.

Literacy and Action Research: Strategies To Improve Comprehension for All Students. Participants practice reading comprehension strategies for grades K–6 and explore the role of action research.
