Northwest Teacher Panel—Four of the region’s Teachers of the Year joined NWREL’s Northwest Teacher Panel in June to share ideas and discuss ways the Laboratory can better serve teachers. The panel, which meets twice a year, also includes teachers who are members of NWREL’s Board of Directors. Charter Schools Leadership Training Academy—The Media Panel at the Charter Schools Leadership Training Academy suggested ways the media can be used to market schools and provided tips for dealing with the media in times of controversy. Held in Portland last July, the academy provided charter school leaders and founders with training in key issues that arise in the creation and management of charter schools. Featured on the panel were: (from left) Bill Gallagher, host of The Bill Gallagher Show, AM 620 K-News; Bill Graves, education writer, The Oregonian; Morgan Holm, Director of News and Public Affairs, Oregon Public Broadcasting Radio; and Bob Landauer, editorial columnist, The Oregonian.
