Lesson Study: Building a Community of Learners Through Peer Collaboration

Lesson study is an ongoing practice used in schools throughout Japan—and, increasingly, in U.S. schools—in which teachers collaborate to plan, observe, and refine a lesson. The cycles of lesson study form the core of teachers’ professional growth. The Laboratory’s NW Eisenhower Regional Consortium for Mathematics and Science invites educators to take part in a lesson study demonstration at Tubman Middle School. Participants will receive an introduction to lesson study, observe a Japanese teacher leading a math lesson, and take part in a "debriefing" in which the lesson is discussed and refined.
