1, 2, 3—Education Now and in the Future drew more than 1,100 people to Portland in October for sessions on leadership, school reform, community-based learning, bilingual education, rural issues, safe schools, technology, assessment, and math and science learning. Keynote speakers were Alfie Kohn, former teacher and writer; Danny Glover, actor and U.S. Goodwill Ambassador; Sam Stringfield, researcher at Johns Hopkins University's Center for the Social Organization of Schools; Dr. Sally Harrison, Executive Director for Teaching and Learning, Edmonds School District; and Dr. Elaine B. Johnson, Director of MBM Associates.
