National Awards

T wo recent NWREL products have received national recognition for quality.

Seeing With New Eyes, a video on the six-trait writing process for young writers, received a Telly Award in a nationwide competition that honors outstanding non-network TV commercials and programming, as well as films and video productions. The video was written and directed by Vicki Spandel of the Northwest Laboratory and produced by Kathryn McCormick of RXL Pulitzer, based in Spokane, Washington.

The second award went to Jason Halstead, designer of the Laboratory’s poster series on the six-trait writing process. Halstead won a silver award in the 1997 Summit Creative Awards competition, which recognizes creative excellence in "smaller" advertising agencies, design firms, and creative groups (those with annual billings under $10 million). NWREL’s Ruth Culham wrote the text for the posters and oversaw design and production for the project.

"The Summit Creative Awards is bestowed only on those projects the judges find to be intelligent, innovative, and persuasive in their creative concept, strategy, and execution," award administrator Jocelyn Luciano said in announcing the winners.
