According to a conference announcement from the Education Department, education has become the Number One policy priority in states and localities throughout the country. "The Clinton/Gore Administration has been working hard to provide the needed leadership and support at the national level through the Department’s various programs and initiatives," the announcement states. "As educators, you all have a unique opportunity to make a significant contribution to this great educational mission. By working together, communities can achieve the kind of comprehensive school reform that will keep our nation strong and competitive well into the next century. We hope you will join us for three days of learning, networking, and action planning."
