Read This. Tips for Parents About Reading, a booklet to help parents guide their children to success in reading, is now posted on the Northwest Regional Educational Laboratory's Comprehensive Center site. In PDF format, it can be downloaded and printed. Authors Deborah Davis and Jan Patricia Lewis briefly discuss reading as language and explain the foundations of the reading process, then offer many practical ideas parents can use with children from birth through middle school.

E-What? E-Rate. The E-Rate is the informal name of the annual discount program that will allow many of the nation's schools and libraries to realize substantial savings in purchasing telecommunications services, internal connections, and Internet access. Its complexities—and there are many—are explained and updated in a primer by John Ferrell of the Northwest Regional Educational Laboratory's educational technology staff.

Welcome, Sisters. The Sisters (Oregon) School District is the newest institutional member of the Laboratory, according to a news release.
