harter Schools— Northwest educators, parent activists, and policymakers gathered for the Northwest Symposium for Charter School Policy sponsored by NWREL in November to study charter schools legislation and literature, share regional developments, and sort out the issues that will define and shape the movement as it takes root in the Northwest region.
New Staff— Kathee Prakken has been named Controller for NWREL. Prakken comes to the Lab from the Loaves & Fishes Center in Portland, where she was Director of Finance and Administrative Services, a position she previously held at the Pacific Region Educational Laboratory in Honolulu.

Educational Technology—Administrators, teachers, and technology specialists from around the region participated in a December design session to explore staff development models for technology integration and distance learning.
