Rural Education—Five teacher-student teams presented their innovative community-based learning projects to partner sites, school board administrators, and the NWREL Rural Education Advisory Committee at a February forum in Portland. The forum, Letting Kids Make a Difference in Their Communities, focused on community-based learning. Among the student participants were: (from left) Gwen Umphrey, a graduate of Montana's St. Ignatius High School who is now at the University of Montana; Natalie Tinajero and Liza Murdock of Morris Schott Middle School, Mattawa, Washington; and Mika Maloney of Washington's White Pass High School.
