New Web Page Helps Parents Guide Kids to Success

Preparing children to be successful in school starts long before a child even begins school with parental awareness of how a young child's mind and body develops as the child grows. And then, when the child starts school, it's critical that parents stay involved in their child's learning on a continuing basis.

While that may be a tall order for many parents to handle, there's now a new Web page designed specifically to provide resources to parents and those who work with parents, children, and families.

Through the Laboratory's Child and Family Program home page, the Parent Information and Resource Center (PIRC) in Oregon is available to everyone (http://www.nwrel.org/pirc/).

Through the Web page parents will be able to find information designed to:

The page offers a searchable resource database. In a separate category, viewers can find listings of upcoming conferences and training opportunities. In yet another category, "Hot Topics" is an ongoing look at different topics with new or updated information about child development. This first one focuses on findings from recent brain research.

Along with resources, the page features original and engaging artwork-with a touch of animation-by Christian Conkle, Laboratory Web Specialist.

This new Web resource is part of a project of Albina Head Start, Portland, which includes as partners the Sunny Wolf Community Response Team of Josephine County and the Laboratory.
