April 1997 Annual Report, Products Catalog Available from NWREL
Two new publications—the Northwest Regional Educational Laboratory's 1996 Annual Report to Members, and the 1997 Products and Publications catalog—give a good idea of what has been happening at NWREL over the last year.
The 1996 Annual Report documents the beginning of NWREL's fourth decade of research and development assistance focused on improving educational results for children, youth, and adults.
The report highlights changes and accomplishments at NWREL during fiscal 1996. This anniversary year saw the appointment of new Executive Director, Dr. Ethel-Simon McWilliams, and new Associate Executive Director, Dr. Carol F. Thomas. Dr. Seymour Hanfling was named Director of the Northwest Educational Technology Center and Dr. Theresa Elofson was named Director of the Child and Family Program. Five programs at NWREL—Assessment and Accountability, Child and Family, Education and Work, Rural Education, and School Improvement—began five-year research and development plans with support from the U.S. Office of Educational Research and Improvement.
In 1996 NWREL expanded and continues to expand its Web site on the Internet. The Laboratory also launched new publications including a quarterly magazine, Northwest Education. NWREL also conducted 566 training and technical assistance activities for 35,552 participants and responded to 2,420 requests for information.
The 1997 Products and Publications catalog lists and describes products and publications written by NWREL staff or sponsored by NWREL and available from NWREL and other publishers.
The catalog includes many new products including books on teaching and assessing writing, several bibliographies and books on assessment-related topics, a four-part training program for working respectfully with families, a symposium proceedings on charter schools, four new products in the Connections: Linking Work and Learning series, and the 10th year of the School Improvement Research Series.
