Partner Journeys

1, 2—Partner Journeys.

Representatives from a dozen NWREL partner sites gathered in Portland in mid-December to review progress made during the last four years and to plan for sustaining those gains in the future. As part of the two-day workshop, school teams created "journey maps" showing the road they've traveled toward creating high-performing learning communities. Partner Journeys

Math Kit

3—Math Kit.

Kindergarten through second-grade teachers in Idaho will have a new tool to help them in the new year. The state department of education is providing 2,600 K–2 Mathematics Inventory Kits to all of Idaho's elementary schools. The math inventory was created by Idaho teachers, with some assistance from NWREL's Math-Science Education Center and the Assessment Program. The Laboratory helped correlate the problems to Idaho state standards, designed and evaluated the pilot test, and guided revisions. Using the kit, teachers ask students to complete a variety of grade-appropriate math tasks, demonstrating their individual approaches to problem solving. The kits were produced in a unique partnership between Idaho's departments of education and corrections.
