6+1 Trait® Informational Writing Institute—This two-day training session will help high school (grades 9–12) language arts and other content area teachers use the trait-based writing assessment and instruction model to develop their students' informational writing skills. Teachers will become familiar with the trait scoring system as it applies to expository and persuasive writing, with a new scoring guide that focuses on the purpose for writing.

6+1 Trait® Writing Assessment, Introduction—In this three-day introductory workshop, educators will gain practical strategies to help K–12 students use the 6+1 Trait® model to become skillful, confident writers. Participants will learn how to evaluate students' papers using clearly defined scoring rubrics that examine traits such as ideas, organization, voice, word choice, sentence fluency, conventions, and presentation. The training is also designed to help teachers align the writing assessment process with instruction to build a seamless system.

For more information about the workshops, see www.nwrel.org/assessment/trainings. To register, contact Sharon Northern at 800-547-6339, x572 or northers@nwrel.org.
