What’s New on the Web

Savvy Traveling—

Entering a new educational setting can often be as confusing as traveling in a foreign country. LEARNS fall 2004 Tutor newsletter, Savvy Traveling: Engaging Volunteers With School Culture, can help volunteers integrate successfully into the organizational culture of an education site as they begin the new school year.

Web-Based Tutor Training—

Developed by the LEARNS project and funded by the Corporation for National and Community Service, Web-Based Tutor Training is designed to introduce national service members and volunteers to effective tutoring strategies. Users interact with virtual tutors and children engaged in a range of activities that integrate different skills and learning styles. The site also includes downloadable support materials.

High School Reform—

Web exclusives are a new feature of the online version of Northwest Education magazine. The fall 2004 issue, "Transforming High School," has Web articles on adolescent reading and looking for grant opportunities, as well as resources on reinventing high schools.
