1, 2, 3—Comprehensive School Reform.

Partners in NWREL’s national re-engineering leadership work met at a Seattle forum October 27–28. Discussion focused on helping school districts develop capacity to ensure learning for all students. Among the participants were Art Gosling of the National Clearinghouse for Comprehensive School Reform (photo 1); Barbara Schaad-Lamphere, a board member of the Seattle Public Schools (photo 2); and Margaret Grogan, a researcher at the University of Missouri (photo 3).

4—Culturally Based Education.


Namaka rawlins, William Demmert, Kim Yap Members of the CBE study team gathered at NWREL in September to review research activities and discuss next steps in the project. Kim Yap, NWREL’s director of research, evaluation, and assessment (far right) talks about upcoming public briefings with William Demmert, professor of education at Western Washington University, and Namaka Rawlins, program director of ’Aha Punana Leo in Hawaii.


5—Online Research Support.


Tenley Harrison Tenley Harrison, a WestEd research associate, visits with NWREL staff to discuss writing research syntheses for a national Web site. The site, an REL network project, will offer technical assistance to service providers such as state departments of education.
