Tuesday, July 22, 2008 - 10:00 to 11:00am (PDT)

Description

Learning Processes was the focus topic for one of the five task groups of the National Mathematics Advisory Panel. The charge of this task group was to address what is known about how children learn and understand areas of mathematics related to algebra and preparation for algebra. The recommendations in this area address readiness for learning; whole number arithmetic (both computational proficiency and conceptual understanding); number sense; fractions; geometry and measurement; general principals of learning; social, motivational, and affective influences; and considerations specific to algebra.
