Mathematics Symposium 2009

January 28 - 29, 2009

Description

FOUNDATIONS FOR SUCCESS: Report of the National Mathematics Advisory Panel and its Implications for SEAs

Sponsored by the Northwest Regional Comprehensive Center (NWRCC) in collaboration with the Mid-Continent Comprehensive Center (MC3)

This symposium is one in a series of opportunities for states to examine findings and recommendations of the National Mathematics Advisory Panel (NMAP) report and engage in sessions with NMAP members and others responsible for assisting schools in improving mathematics teaching and learning.

SEA Teams

The NWRCC will support a five-member team from each state. We encourage each SEA to send a team that includes the staff responsible for mathematics curriculum and instruction, teacher certification, Title I, Title II and/or school improvement. States may also wish to invite other team members outside their agency who play a key role in developing and implementing mathematics policies and initiatives (e.g., higher education or educational service districts).

Larger SEA teams may attend on a space-available basis; however, travel and lodging costs for any additional members must be covered by their agency.

Expected Outcomes

Participants will develop a common understanding of the key findings in the National Mathematics Advisory Panel Report and identify implications and next steps for their state education agency.

Featured Speakers

Invited speakers include members of the National Mathematics Advisory Panel.

Meeting Location and Times

The symposium will be held at the Portland Marriott City Center, located at 520 S.W. Broadway, Portland, Oregon 97205.

The symposium begins with breakfast and registration at 8:00 am on Wednesday, January 28, and ends at approximately 3:30 pm on Thursday, January 29.
