States Helping Districts to Help Schools: State Education Agency (SEA) Support of School Improvement at the District Level

As the implementation of NCLB progresses, the number of schools in need of improvement is expected to rise dramatically. The focus of this symposium is to examine SEA intervention methods at the district level as a possible strategy to meet the needs of more schools with limited SEA resources. Northwest National Service Symposium

May 12–13, 2008
Portland State University—Portland, Oregon

Drawing together 200 national service participants from Oregon and Washington, the National Service Symposium will focus on the AmeriCorps experience through the lens of the literary, visual, and performing arts. The event showcases winners of a contest that invites AmeriCorps members and other service participants to submit projects inspired by their volunteer experiences. Accepted submissions are published in an anthology distributed at the event, and an evening banquet features the top projects. Response to Intervention (RTI) Symposium

6+1 Trait® Writing Assessment Introductory Institutes

This workshop features practical, ready-to-use lessons and strategies that help students identify quality in writing, manage their own writing process, practice effective revision and editing skills, and become confident writers. It is designed to address grades 4–12 on the first two days, and grades K–3 on the last two days. Teachers may attend all four days, or attend either of the two-day sessions.

6+1 Trait® Writing Assessment for Trainers Institutes

This three-day advanced training of trainers institute is for those who wish to conduct their own in-district training workshops. Previous training in the 6+1 Trait® model is required.
