Looking Out for Native Students
I found this article (“Native Voices: Larry Byers,” spring 2004) very interesting. I graduated from Chemawa in 1981. At that time there was a transition going on from the “old” school to the modular units of the “new” school. A lot of changes happened during that time. Although I was able to continue education after I graduated, I can see how the subsequent change in academics could have helped many of the students who were attending Chemawa at the time. It’s nice to see that someone is/was looking out for the non-traditional students that generally attended Chemawa then, and to see the benefits that Larry Byers brings to the students of this generation. Nice to see that someone really cares about my old high school.
