Boosting Reading

A very interesting article (“Why Can’t I Read?” spring 2003). I am dyslexic and also have three dyslexic children. I have always struggled with reading, and I find it very hard and very tiring trying to explain myself. But I have taught my two younger children the names and sounds of the alphabet from the age of two, and this has helped them so much. My four-year-old started school able to read and write at a high level. My three-year-old has just started to read. I do believe the wiring of the brain has so much to do with it. If we get it right at an early age I believe we can help our children overcome the inability to read.

High School Reform

An article worth its weight in gold (“The Challenge of Reinventing High School,” fall 2004). Schools and their administrators have to change their thinking to go beyond agrarianism and into the technical mind-set of present-day students. We experience change but have failed to make the adjustments in the field of education.
