Web Based Tutor Training

Abby engages Marcus in a discussion about what he has been studying in class, which may help him remember the assignment. Even if Marcus doesn't remember much, talking will help Abby learn more about what the teacher has been doing. Once Abby knows enough, she can help Marcus make a plan for completing his assignment.

image, abby and marcusAbby: Keeping track of homework and long projects is tough. What we have to do is figure out a way to help you keep track of these assignments. So, maybe today we'll do two things: we'll talk about this assignment and we'll try to figure out more about it and what you need to do to complete it. How does that sound?
Marcus: OK, that sounds good.
Abby: OK, let's see if there is a map of the United States here, then maybe we can figure out which state you should be doing for this assignment. So what else have you been doing in class?
Marcus: We've been talking about the weather and other stuff in different states.
Abby: Oh, sort of like the different environments in different states?
Marcus: Yeah, you know, some states have a desert and no rain, and some have lots of mountains.

Abby asks more questions. She is hoping he'll remember something about his assignment. She finds a U.S. map and names some states hoping that Marcus will remember. On the West coast she mentions a few more states: Washington, Oregon, California.

Marcus: Oh yeah, Oregon. I am supposed to do Oregon.
Abby: That's great, now we know what your report is about and we have to figure out what you need to say in the report. Do you remember anything about the assignment?
Marcus: I think we're just supposed to write about our state, that's it.
