  • Reading Is Fundamental promotes literacy and a life-long joy of reading through volunteer-run programs working with children, parents, and communities. This Web site offers resources including book lists and activity ideas. RIF is associated with the Smithsonian Institute.

  • The ERIC Clearinghouse on Reading, English, and Communication provides a variety of materials, including ERIC Digests and parent brochures on a broad array of education-related topics. The Web site links to many other literacy resources.

  • Webtime Stories is an annotated list of Web sites featuring online stories. From here link to Aesop's Fables, myths, and resources such as Children's Literature Web Guide and A Parent's Place, which features online activities for parents and children. Sites of interest for young children, older youth, parents, tutors, and teachers.

  • Library in the Sky An organized collection of links to resources, information, and activities for all academic subjects. Useful to anyone involved in education. Search for links by academic subject, your role (parent, teacher, student, etc.), or type of resource (lessons, reference, etc.).

  • Children's Book Council is a non-profit trade organization dedicated to encouraging literacy and the use and enjoyment of children's books. Provides resources for parents, caregivers, teachers, and librarians. Pages include Choosing a Children’s Book, 13 Exciting Reading Activities for Children, and 75 Authors and Illustrators Everyone Should Know.

  • Children's Literature Web Guide is a categorized collection of Internet resources related to books for children and young adults. It includes Children’s book awards, bestsellers, commentaries on children's books, discussion boards, and numerous links to other children’s literature Web sites.

  • Kathy Schrock's Guide for Educators is a collection of Internet Web sites helpful for enhancing curriculum and teacher professional growth. Updated daily, it includes literature related sites.

  • American Library Association’s Booklist magazine reviews thousands of books for adults and children. A cumulative index to the booklist is available, with entries for author, title, and illustrator.

  • Funbrain hosts over 30 games that children can play on-line, divided both by age range and category (math, science, grammar, foreign language, and culture). Parents can register to receive e-mail up-dates of their child’s progress.

  • The Alphabet Superhighway site provides a variety of interactive links for students. Some of the links include: The Exhibit Hall, where students can read about different class projects in science, history and social studies; the Cyberzine – an on-line publication with student-authored poems, book reviews and art; and the Challenge Chaser – a list of writing, graphing, and map-reading games.
