6+1 Trait® Writing Introductory Institute (Portland, OR)
December 9–12, 2008
Location
The Crowne Plaza Portland Convention Center is located in Portland’s uptown district; also know as the Lloyd District. The hotel is close to Oregon’s largest mall (no sales tax in Oregon!), dining, and evening entertainment. A complimentary shuttle is available to hotel guests staying on the NWREL block. Use the shuttle or free light rail (MAX) for the short trip downtown—only 5 minutes by shuttle, 10 minutes by MAX.
Directions
From I-5 North or South: Take Exit 302A “Rose Quarter/Weidler Avenue.” The Crowne Plaza is located just off I-5 on the corner of 2nd and Weidler Avenues.
Lodging
The Crowne Plaza Portland Convention Center (1441 NE 2nd, Portland, OR 97232) is holding a block of rooms for the NWREL Traits Institute. The rate is $109 per night. Please ask for the NWREL block when booking your reservation. The Crowne Plaza airport shuttle is free to hotel guests. Call the hotel prior to arrival to schedule your pick-up. Parking is $10 per day for overnight guests. Attendees from the local area may park for free at the hotel during the institute. Reservations can be made by calling 888-444-0401 or 503-233-2401.
Schedule
There are two different three-day sessions separated by grade clusters:
- Grades 3-12: December 9–11, 2008
- Grades K-3: December 10–12, 2008
Third grade teachers may choose the session that best meets their needs (depending on whether their focus is geared toward the primary or intermediate grades).
Institute hours are 8:30 a.m.–3:30 p.m. each day. Breakfast begins at 7:45 a.m.; lunch is served at noon.
