Classroom to Community and Back Using Culturally Responsive, Standards-Based Curriculum To Engage Families and Increase Student Achievement
Learn to enhance student motivation and interest; improve school-family-community partnerships; and create a rigorous, relevant curriculum with culturally responsive, standards-based teaching. This workshop provides strategies to actively engage students (especially those who are typically disengaged) by tapping into their family, community, and youth culture. These strategies can be used in any subject area and can range from making small changes to existing curriculum to designing extensive projects—all adhering to state and local standards. As a result, families are positively and directly connected to the school and their children's education—which research shows has a positive impact on student achievement.
