World-Class Education Services for Local Needs

Improving Adolescent Mathematics Learning: Instructional Strategies for Teachers of Grades 6-12

This service provides customized training and ongoing support to middle and high school mathematics teachers. Secondary teachers examine and apply research on adolescent mathematics in sessions tailored to meet the needs of individual schools and districts. The training explores research-based answers to questions such as: What does mathematical literacy for secondary students look like today? What building and district support does research suggest for struggling learners of mathematics? What research-based instructional practices will promote the development of mathematical thinking and skills? What assessment practices are effective in identifying the mathematical needs of secondary students? What are effective teacher professional development practices associated with improving mathematical thinking, problem solving, and reasoning? The content of the professional development is based on NWREL's best-selling research synthesis, Improving Adolescent Mathematics: Findings From Research (2005).

This service can be customized for:

Teachers, instructional coaches, and principals who want to increase their understanding of effective mathematics instruction for middle or high school students.
