Aligning Assessment With Standards: Effective Course Design
This service—developed by the same team that brought you the 6+1 Trait® Writing model—is designed to improve student achievement by providing a process for teachers to integrate instruction and assessment. Workshop facilitators instruct K-12 teams on how to design and deliver learning units of a course using a standards-based approach. Participants will be introduced to a six-stage teaching-learning cycle:
- Course design
- Defining learning outcomes
- Creating unit lesson plans
- Student preassessment
- Selecting outcome assessments
- Teaching, assessing, and analyzing
Components of this process include best practices such as curriculum mapping of broad learning goals and differentiation practices, use of cognitive and affective learning goals, and student-involved assessment practices.
This service can be customized for: K-12 teaching staff in all subject areas. It is recommended that teacher teams from the same school attend the training together, so they can meet regularly and continue to apply what they learn in the training.
