This is a sample of one of six handouts created by the Berkeley High School Computer Academy. The project that this handout accompanies guides students in acting upon legislation occuring in California's state capital. Visiting the California State Legislature

Sample Schedule
April 27,2000

Previous year students visited 2 sets of legislators/aides. This year's visit was scheduled to coincide with a statewide rally to protest DWB (Racial profiling), so they only did one set of visits and attended the rally.

All groups:

Leave BHS 9:00 a.m. promptly from Milvia and Bancroft.

Arrive in Sacramento 10:40 a.m.

Group A Schedule:

Meet with Assemblyman Washington's aide Angelo Williams (3 strikes, DWB) at 10:45 a.m.

Then go to observe the Assembly is session 11:30 a.m.-noon.

Lunch.

Return to the rally by 12:45. (Rally starts at noon - BHS speakers between 12:30 and 1:30 pm.)

Leave at 2:00 p.m.

Group B Schedule:

10:45 a.m. observe Senate in session.

11:15 meet with Nolese Edwards, governor's aide, re: Zero Tolerance Remediation Act, access to media, dp expansion, and DWB in basement cafeteria.

11:45 go to lunch.

Return to rally by 12:30 pm. (Rally starts at noon - BHS speakers between 12:30 and 1:30 pm.)

Leave at 2:00 pm.

Group C Schedule:

11:00 a.m. Meet with Leonard's aide, Charles Bacchi, in room 2175 re: separate prison for HIV infected or old inmates, and selling of SQ.

11:30 a.m. Observe the Senate is session 11:30 a.m. - noon.

Lunch.

Return to the rally by 12:45 p.m. (Rally starts at noon - BHS speakers between 12:30 and 1:30 p.m.)

Leave at 2:00 p.m.

Group D Schedule:

Meet with Aroner's aide, Hans, at 11:00 a.m. in room 2163, re: STAR tests, 3 strikes, and DWB.

Then go to observe the Assembly in session 11:30 a.m.-noon.

Lunch.

Return to the rally by 12:45 pm. (Rally starts at noon - BHS speakers between 12:30 and 1:30 pm.)

Leave at 2:00 pm.

Group E Schedule:

Meet with Polanco's aide Gwynnae Byrd in Room 400 at 10:45 a.m. re: SB1987, drug treatment and education for felons before parole.

Then go to observe the Senate in session 11:30 a.m.-noon.

Lunch.

Return to the rally by 12:45 p.m. (Rally starts at noon - BHS speakers between 12:30 and 1:30 pm.)

Leave at 2:00 p.m.

Group F Schedule:

Meet with Lewis's aide (he took over the bill from Johnson), Jim Gentry, at 11:00 a.m. in room 3063 re: 1474, which denies parole to juveniles who refure to turn in whoever gave them a gun.

Then go to observe the Assembly in session 11:30 a.m.- noon.

Lunch.

Return to the rally by 12:45 p.m. (Rally starts at noon - BHS speakers between 12:30 and 1:30 p.m.)

Leave at 2:00 p.m.
