Writing to a legislator

This handout provides students a business-letter writing model for sending a correspondence to a representative in Sacramento.

(State your position briefly and forcefully.)

(Give one important reason for your argument. Follow it with facts, statistics or a concrete example.) (Give a second important reason for your argument. Use facts, statistics or a concrete example to back it up. If your source is recent and credible, include it by saying something like "According to a recent study by. . .")

(When you have made your strongest arguments, explain why you care about this issue personally. Why is it important to you that it be dealt with? If you can give a personal example, do so.)
