This site serves to assist national service participants who are receiving or have received an AmeriCorps education award in using it wisely. Within a few weeks, this web site will have features including ed award FAQs and downloadable training materials that will help you create an ed award presentation for your team.

Currently, this web site provides a list of links that can assist you in finding the information you need.

Ed Award Links

Comprehensive ed award information. This official Corporation for National and Community Service provides information on how your ed award can and can't be used. For persons who are using the award to attend school, it also covers information about Worksheet C on the FAFSA and includes a message you can take to your school's financial aid office. www.americorps.org/members/resource/education.

If you have questions about the status of your ed award at the Corporation for National and Community Service, contact the National Service Trust. For recorded messages about various aspects of the National Service Trust, you can call toll-free (888) 507-5962; you may also use this number to change your address and request duplicate vouchers. For questions about the status of a specific award or specific payments, call (202) 606-5000 ext 347.

The National AmeriCorps Association also offers information on the effective use of the ed award, including links on tax resources. This is also a site that provides a list of schools that match or augment the education award. Visit lifetimeofservice.org

Finaid.org is an excellent resource for learning about the processes that go into paying for higher education.

When you are thinking about going to school and want to apply for financial aid, you need to fill out the Free Application for Federal Student Aid. You can do this online. Generally, when you are thinking about going to school in the fall, you fill out the FAFSA as early as possible in the calendar year to position yourself for the best possible aid package. If you participated in national service, don't overlook Worksheet C!

Former National Service Fellow Brandon Rogers conducted indepth research on the education award. You can download his paper The Effective Education Award and read about scenarios where a former AmeriCorps member can lose as much as $15,000 in potential aid and the surprising results of a survey of financial aid professionals.
