External Facilitators for School Improvement: Building Statewide Capacity

ODE Panel Discussion

Montana's School Coaches are working closely with schools and districts that are in NCLB improvement status to help them make data-driven decisions about their improvement goals and action plans, and to implement sustainable improvements. NWREL staff members began providing training in the Fall of 2007. Similar to the type of professional development provided to the Oregon Department of Education's Regional School Improvement Coordinators over a three-year period, Montana's School Coaches are trained on ways to provide external assistance to principals and leadership teams at all stages of improvement planning and implementation.
