About the Northwest Regional Educational Laboratory
NWREL at a Glance
Mission
The mission of the Northwest Regional Educational Laboratory (NWREL) is to improve learning by building capacity in schools, families, and communities through applied research and development.
A private, nonprofit corporation, NWREL provides research and development assistance to education, government, community agencies, business, and labor. NWREL is part of a national network of 10 educational laboratories funded by the U.S. Department of Education, Institute of Education Sciences (IES) to serve the Northwest region of Alaska, Idaho, Montana, Oregon, and Washington.
Now in its fifth decade, NWREL reaffirms the belief that strong public schools, strong communities, strong families, and strong children make a strong nation. We further believe that every student must have equal access to high quality education and the opportunity to succeed, and that strong schools ensure equity and excellence for all students.
Priorities for Educational Improvement
Focusing on priority educational needs in the region, NWREL conducts programs and projects under four Centers of Excellence, providing services in the areas of classroom teaching and learning; school and district improvement; school, family, and community; and research, evaluation, and assessment.
