[ Back | Next ] NWREL's Mission
is to improve educational results for children, youth, and adults by providing research and development assistance in delivering equitable, high-quality educational programs.
NWREL continued to vigorously pursue its mission in 1998, maintaining our basic commitment to achieving equity and excellence for all students. The five-year Institutional Strategic Plan, adopted in 1996, guides efforts to achieve seven goals of having:
- A comprehensive range of research, development, training, and technical assistance activities to effectively respond to priority educational needs of the Northwest region and the nation
- A diverse mix of interagency relationships to enhance NWREL effectiveness
- An effective, regionally-representative Board of Directors that functions as a policymaking, governance body, providing oversight and monitoring of Laboratory work
- An organizational structure providing for efficient planning and management of the work of the Laboratory
- A staff with the experience and skills to be able to respond effectively and resource-efficiently to educational needs
- Increased resources derived from new and traditional federal, state, and local sources to serve clients: educational practitioners, policymakers, and the public
- A structure and practices for effectively managing Laboratory assets
