March 1996This is a set of four training modules developed by NWREL's Child and Family Program. The materials, easy to use but recommended for those with training experience, promote an ecological, family-centered approach to education and service delivery. It is intended that the training modules help educators and human services providers to form effective and supportive partnerships with each other and with the families they serve. The full package includes:

Module I (four hours) The Child, the Family, and the Community, a preprequisite for the other modules, covers the philosophical underpinnings of an ecological, strength-based approach to service delivery. ![]()
Module II (three hours) Developing Partnerships with Families covers the implications of the ecological model for building partnerships and helping relationships, contrasting the medical/deficit model with the parent-professional partnership model. ![]()
Module III (three hours) Creating Family-Friendly Schools covers types and benefits of parental involvement. ![]()
Module IV (three hours) Home, School, and Community Partnerships covers how to strengthen families through home/school/community partnerships. These modules were created for training individuals within your organization. The modules may be purchased, and, then, trainers within your organization can give the workshops to the individuals with whom you work. Participant packets may be purchased from the Lab for these training sessions. NWREL Staff can also come to you and present one or all of these modules to your organization.
