Easy Ways for Families to Help Children Learn:

Activities and Suggestions for Families to Enhance Learning for Children Preschool - Grade 6

Deborah Davis and Sharon Pottmeyer
October 1998 (revised, Sharon Pottmeyer; July 1999)

This booklet was created for busy families that want to help their children:

A child's school plays an important role in teaching him or her the skills needed for today's world. But the school cannot do this alone. When schools and families are partners supporting the efforts of one another, children get more from school and from life.

The practical activities included are for while riding in a car or on a bus, spending time at home, preparing family meals, or shopping for groceries. Easy Ways was created with busy families in mind, and the suggested activities add little or no time or financial commitment.

The book is divided into general age ranges, but children can benefit from activities in any section of the book. Once the suggestions have been used as a way to get started, it is not difficult to add ideas to make an activity easier, harder or more fun.

A child will benefit most from these or other learning activities without pressure and while having fun together. It is suggested that the child do only those activities he/she can reasonably do.
