Resource center for family, school, and community partnerships developing family-centered and school-linked comprehensive services for families and children.
ust as the child's environment offers challenges and opportunities, community settings offer challenges and opportunities for healthy family functioning. Research on young children's development shows that the family is the most important environment for nurturing the child. Practices that are developmentally appropriate, family-centered, and culturally sensitive, all define ways a child's environment interacts with the child and the family that are beneficial to development. The school is a common meeting ground for families and communities.
"Community partnerships offer one solution to building the school's capacity to help improving the lives of their children and families. Schools are where the children are. Collaborating with outside school resources and families is targeted at enhancing both academic and non-academic skills for children." - Education Week magazine |
